There are a few things in your life that "has to be done", this website was one of the items in my "bucket" list. . Although I must admit that this urge came a bit late in my life.  It’s a shame that in schools in Fiji in the 1980's, we learnt about Capitan Cook, about the First Governor General of Fiji, about the Queen, and the Monarchy, but we never studied the most important part of the history of Fiji, which formed the foundations of the social and economic growth in Fiji - The Girmit and the Girmitiya's. I, like many of you share the passion, the desire, to know and understand more about the Girmit Era. To learn more about the "Girmitiyas", their life, their dreams, aspirations, and amongst that, their hardship. This website has been created to pay tribute to these Girmitiyas and to ensure that "we keep the light glowing" for as long as we can.
